It’s my birthday.
Well, almost.
Tomorrow.
But, I started Celebrating tonight.
Well, Kind of.

I soaked in The Lawyer’s mini pool, ate Tostitos for dinner, and we’re gonna watch Netflix. A perfect segue into the next day. Oh, in years past there’s been “#tendaysofbirthday,” selfies with all my friends who could stop by the salon, parties, big deals. But this year, like most, I’ll head to work, love people as best I can, have a nice dinner with My Love, talk to my family, and call it a day.

Why no whoopla? Why no fun hashtag? Why no week of pre-celebration? It’s been busy, I’ve been busy, we’ve all been busy. But that’s not really it, really. Maybe it’s because I’m older, maybe because I’m tired, maybe I just don’t care. Nah, that ain’t it.

I think it’s just kind of snuck up on me. There’s been so much these last 15 months, and I’m just not going to talk about it. But, you need to know, it’s been heavy. So, birthdays?

Profound.

Important.

I don’t even need to celebrate mine. Let’s all just celebrate because we woke up, can we? Tell somebody you love them, compliment a stranger, text an old friend and tell them you’re thinking of them. Do it for my birthday.

Call your brother you haven’t spoken to. Get your co-worker a cup of coffee. Squeeze your niece. Go to the chapel and light a candle. (Carol, please light one for me. I light one for you every time I’m in a chapel.)

Love hard today. Whether you feel like it or not. Do it. Search for your passion; don’t let it get lost in the mire. Find it. Live it. Share it. Pray for it. Dig. Into. It.

Don’t lose your God-given purpose.

So, this birthday, what do I want? For you to love hard, seek Jesus, realize the breath in your lungs. You have a purpose, a gift, a calling. Let me know you’ve asked God about it.
