It’s About Time

Time.

It’s about time.

I remember when I was a little girl trying to learn to “tell time”.  Waaaay back then we didn’t have digital clocks, we only had real clocks with hands.  Long hand, short hand, second hand.  Wait.  How can it be a “second hand” if it’s the third hand on the clock?

That one stumped me for a long time.

I did finally learn to tell time on a clock.

But then, as I grew older, I began to feel time.

Feeling something is very different from knowing something.  It’s a perspective that only you have, for your life, for your situations.  Days “fly by”, “one day I spent a week in Albuquerque”, it was “gone in an instant”, “time flies when you’re having fun”, “it seems like just yesterday”, I’m sure you’ve heard them all.  Clocks tick slower and louder some days more than others.  Time creeps by when you’re miserable, and seems to go too fast when you’re happy.

How did I get to be 43 years old?  How did my baby boy get to be 13 and my big boy 28?  (we know how Mr. Hilaman got to be 52; he’ll ALWAYS be older than me) But how did this happen?  Where has 43 years gone?

I wonder where the last year went, too.  So much has happened in the last 52+ weeks.  (Read a few posts back and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.)  But this last year is gone.  How did that happen?  Where did it go? How did I use the year?  Was I a good steward of my time?

If this year went by so fast, and the last 43 have gone by so fast, how much faster will the next 43 fly by?  ( I do plan on living to be 102, btw)

It can’t be a year already.  Can it?  Are you sure?  It seems impossible.

Then, before you know it, it’s been 25.

Long, drawn out, faster-than-lightening years.

So,

Cherish your time.  Time on a clock.  Time in your heart.  Feel it.  Sense it.    Experience it.  Share it.  Value it.
